Washington D.C. through my eyes (VII)


The National WWII Memorial: It honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the United States, the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home. World War II lasted from 1941 to 1945.

I must admit that I never knew a country could squeeze so many monuments, memorials and museums into a particular area until I visited Washington D.C. This memorial is one of the newest on the famous National Mall stretch. It is between Constitution and Independence Avenues, and is flanked by the Washington Monument to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.




The WWII Memorial is not as emotionally gripping as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial or the Korean War Veterans Memorial, but I liked the quotes that were etched all along the walls of the memorial including these below:
